Brown Butter & Dark Brown Sugar, Chocolate Chip Cookies

Mmmmmhmmmm. Once I became a Mom, I knew I needed to perfect my chocolate chip cookie recipe. As a child, I'd hear my mom talk about her Great Grandmother Shiftlet's chocolate chip cookies and how she had the best recipe because she used dark brown sugar. So it's obviously a no brainer for me and my recipe, but you're more than welcome to use any brown sugar you have.

Here's What You Need:

2 sticks of BUTTER

1.5 c DARK BROWN SUGAR

2 EGGS

1 tbs VANILLA

1 tsp SALT

1 tbs BAKING SODA

2 c FLOUR

2 c CHOCOLATE CHIPS

How To Make BROWN BUTTER CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES:

  1. Start by tossing two sticks of butter in a small sauce pan. (Don't be intimidated by browning the butter, it's so easy.) Melt your butter and bring to heavy simmer, stirring often. Remove from heat and cool once you see that beautiful golden color. Please note there will be tiny bits at the bottom, and the butter will foam up when simmering. It's all apart of the process.
  2. Combine flour, salt, and baking soda in separate bowl.
  3. Once butter has cooled (still in its liquid state) mix with dark brown sugar.
  4. Add a splash of vanilla.
  5. Mix in the eggs one at a time.
  6. Slowly mix in the dry ingredients.
  7. Fold in chocolate chips.
  8. Scoop out about a tablespoon or so of dough and roll in to ball. Place on a cookie sheet until you run out of dough. Cover and let chill for at least two hors. It allows the flavors to really get aquatinted with one another.
  9. When you're ready to bake, preheat your oven to 350º.
  10. Bake anywhere from 7-9 minutes depending on how you like your cookies.
