Brown Butter Blondies, made in just one single bowl.
This is the first recipe I learned from my mom. It's an incredibly easy recipe, but it takes some time. I can still remember smelling the melting butter, helping her stir every couple . Watching the color and texture of the brown sugar change. Burning my tongue on tiny tastes here and there. I remember her telling me that we had to be patient while the mixture cooled — if we added the eggs too soon, they'd scramble right in the batter. I remember grabbing pie tins and filling them with ice, because I couldn't wait the hour or two it needed to cool, especially on a summer's day.
So the choice is yours — you can make these quick, or you can make the best damn blondies you've ever had. Either way, they'll be delicious. But my favorite thing about this recipe is that it uses just one bowl and one pan — and well... a couple of spoons, because I still can't resist sneaking tastes of the batter here and there.
Here's What You Need:
2 sticks of BUTTER
2 c DARK BROWN SUGAR
2 EGGS
1 tbs VANILLA
1 tsp SALT
1 tbs BAKING SODA
2 c FLOUR
2 c CHOCOLATE CHIPS
How To Make ONE BOWL BROWN BUTTER BLONDIES:
- Start by tossing two sticks of butter in a medium to large sauce pan. (Don't be intimidated by browning the butter, it's so easy.) Melt your butter and bring to heavy simmer, stirring often. You'll know when you're close to because it'll start to foam up. Once the butter is a dark golden color, turn down the heat to medium low.
- Add brown sugar, stirring often until sugar and butter make are smooth. This will take a while, but I promise you this is the most important step of the process.
- Let butter and sugar cool for an hour or two.
- Once butter has cooled, add a splash of vanilla.
- Preheat oven to 350*
- Add the eggs in one at a time.
- Mix in flour, salt, and baking soda.
- Fold in chocolate chips.
- Grease and spread batter into an 8x11 in pan and bake for 20 minutes or so. Until a toothpick comes out clean.
- If you'd like to add any chocolate chips to the top be sure to pull out the blondies 3-5 minutes before they're done to add the toppings.
