The BEST sweet treat in Central America.
In my opinion, at least. It is a sweet treat that I dream of, because it is not yet available in the US. (Trust me--I check on a biannual basis.) As far as I know it's only found in Costa Rica.
This is such a simple ice cream sandwich, with a graham cracker cookie, chocolate syrup, + vanilla ice cream.
This is my second attempt at making these, and I am so pleased! I tweaked the recipe a bit and went for a frozen yogurt approach. Why, you ask? Bc I ate the whole batch last time (which was made in an 8x8in. pan w/ possibly a whole tub of ice cream). So for precautionary reasons, I made this batch much smaller, and a bit more health conscious. Although, next time I will be using vanilla ice cream. So please feel free to skip the yogurt and keep it traditional. I promise you won't regret it.
What you need...
Cookies:
- 1 pack of GRAHAM CRACKERS
- 1/2 stick MELTED BUTTER
- 2 tbs od SUGAR
Filling:
- 1/2 c GREEK VANILLA YOGURT
- 1/3 c COOL WHIP
- CHOCOLATE SYRUP
How to make Trits...
- Preheat oven to 350º
- Blend graham cracker (or crush by hand to relieve some stress- I did both)
- Add sugar + melted butter to graham crackers
- Oil cupcake pan
- Evenly add mix to cupcake pan, about 1/8 of a cup in each
- Smooth with a glass or press down w/fingers, making a flat cookie crust
- Bake for 5 minutes
- Let the cool to room temp, then freeze them for 20 minutes
- Mix the greek yogurt and cool whip
- Remove cookies from freezer then pop them out of the pan (a toothpick came in handy for me)
- Drizzle a little chocolate syrup of half of the cookies
- Add a dollop or two of the filling
- Chill in freezer for 20 minutes then add the other half of the cookies making that ice cream sandwich.
- Freeze for 1-2 hours, & enjoy.
(This recipe makes 6 mini Trits and takes a couple of hours.)
